Some unforeseen circumstances led to an early sweet potato harvest. I'm okay with it. Not too bad considering they were grown in an 18 gallon Rubbermaid container. Wonder if they'll be worth eatin'. I'll let'cha know.
tending the soil
sow for yourselves righteousness;
reap steadfast love;
break up your fallow ground,
for it is the time to seek the Lord,
that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.

Just so you know...
Here's what Alabama red clay "soil" looks like -
this is right from my back yard:
The first part shows the damp stuff. Then, at :36, I show you the rock it becomes when dry.
And this is why I'm doing a "back to eden" garden.
You can watch that video here:
Really great stuff.

The Lord Shall Giveth...
Lucy Shall Taketh Away...
The coddled melons AND the just-days-from-harvest eggplants are now making their journey
through my sweet pup's digestive tract...
Awww, ain't she sweet...
Picky - picky...
There's a good chance the thorns are what kept her from finishing this one.
So, here's the deal: The rest of the fence and the gate are going in tomorrow morning.
And Lucy will be getting an extra helping of Purina from now on...
Some experimental sweet potatoes on the patio in an 18 gallon tote...we shall see...
UPDATE:
The rest of the fence is officially up.
The gate's gonna be a doozie...wish me luck.

Thank You's
My very first post here must begin with some thank you's: To Sam, for letting me spend the time and money getting things up and running. To Grant, for being patient with me and not complaining too much when we stay outside too long and you get tired and hot and a wee pink from too much sun. And, most importantly, to God for his kind and abundant provision.
Here's what we've got so far this year...
Went outside this morning to check for any ripening tomatoes (none so far - lotsa green ones though) and almost wet myself when I found this. My very first muskmelon!!!
And here's a wee-baby one.
Coddling the melons :o)
Black Beauty Eggplant almost ready to pick.
Here are my sprawling cantaloupe vines. There were dreams and half plans for trellising - hence the poles in the ground - and, yet, here they are...sprawling.
A wee-baby Fajita Bell Pepper..
An eggplant flower...
And finally, probably one of my favorite things about this year's garden:
"fairy spindles" on the melon vines.
